Recycling of unwanted electrical and electronic equipment

WEEE (EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive)

There is a requirement on each European member state to minimise the disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) as unsorted municipal waste and to achieve a high collection for treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal. The WEEE Directive is now UK law.

Lords Sew-Knit Centre are obliged under WEEE regulations to offer customers free take-back of their unwanted equipment when they buy a new Electrical or Electronic product from us.

In any event of you purchasing a sewing machine or other electrical/electronic product from Lords we will accept your old sewing machine or like-for-like product in exchange and prevent it from going into a landfill site by disposing of it safely.

This is a free-of-charge service to you. You can help contribute to the WEEE regulations by returning your like-for-like product to us, thus enabling the creation of an effective chain in the safe recycling, recovery or re-use of potentially hazardous waste.

Just return your qualifying product to Lords Sewing at Oswaldtwistle Mills and we will dispose of it for you through a qualifying Producer Compliance Scheme.

We understand that you may need to do this at a later date than when you purchase the equipment and you can return a qualifying item within two months from purchase date.

A large amount of electrical and electronic waste ends up in landfill. As a result, many of the toxins and hazardous substances contained in these products can cause contamination to water, soil and the environment that we all depend on. We all have a role to play in reducing the potential harmful effect on natural habitat, wildlife and human health.

Since August 2005 manufacturers and producers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment have been responsible for marking equipment with the crossed out wheelie bin symbol shown above. This may appear on the packaging, instruction sheet or book and the accompanying warranty information. Goods marked with this symbol should be disposed of independently of household waste for effective recycling.
